SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a server and perform various tasks through a command line. The protocol is employed by many skilled users, for the reason that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access may be employed for a number of things based on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server permits it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for just about anything - you can install software or restart certain services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed mostly with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that permit you to use the protocol if your PC is using a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a lot of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting

When you have a shared website hosting account with us and you'd like to manage your content remotely using SSH, you can obtain SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan doesn't provide this feature as standard, you could add it with a couple of mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You can even pick what password you want to use, given that it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared many Help articles where you can find all of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, as well as examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you can include it from the hosting Control Panel if required - even only for the current month. Either way, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the feature with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the CP. In the same spot, you will find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you can easily type the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you could also change it as often as you want. The full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a couple of instances. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports such connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server offers provide SSH access as standard, so you won't need to add any upgrades or enable anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login details, you will be able to connect using its primary IP address and the login credentials that you've picked throughout the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you may run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage more or less everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps you install in a fast and protected way.
